RHC 2s Lose by 7 Wickets

Joe Gibson's side lose again after a disappointing batting collapse.

After skipper Gibson lost the toss and the 2s were inserted to bat, Clarkson and Malik opened the batting on a fine summers day with high hopes of sizeable score. Unfortunately, Malik never got fully going and was out LBW to their overseas, while Clarkson scored the scratchiest 25 anyone will ever see as wickets tumbled at the other end. Dimdore-Miles was out first ball to a delightful ball that pitched on middle and leg and nipped away to hit top of middle and off. Stibbs followed suit for a 3 balls duck to leave the 2s reeling at 40-3. Lapsley came and went after spooning a short wide one to point, while the introduction of Yass and Brunton steadied the ship as they doubted the score but Brunton was out caught at square leg with the score at 87. Skipper Gibson looked assured before hitting a full toss straight to deep square leg, with Azhar departing without troubling the scorers. Naidu was run out by Yass, and Young was left stranded on 2* after Yass hit a full toss to mid wicket. 114 all out for the 2s was simply not good enough and their were too many wickets that fell off of bad balls.

Gibson and Young opened up, and the skipper lead by example taking a wicket off the last ball of the first over. The Clackmanna CO. numbers 2 and 3 batted well and bought up a 50 partnership off 20 overs, despite some tight bowling from Lapsley, Malik, Young and Azhar. After drinks Young was reintroduced and struck after 3 balls removing the opener to give the Lions a newfound sense of belief, but only one more wicket was to follow, off of a filthy rank long hop by Gibson that the batsman spooned straight up to Dimdore-Miles. There was no celebration. Clarkson bowled a tight spell but there was no further breakthrough as all the bowlers were unlucky not to pick up a wicket, but some low risk batting from the opposition saw them home.

A weak batting performance let down the 2s, as all the bowlers bowled well to leave the side dreaming of what could've been.

Scorecard to follow.
