Tristan Linforth
Gentleman, Scholar, Corry boy to the core!

It is with great, great sadness that I write this.

Tristan was sadly taken from us when he was knocked down in Japan. He was on his way home to Edinburgh to celebrate his 28th Birthday with his family and friends.

His funeral takes place on Friday 12th October at 10.30am in St Pauls' Church - Muirhouse Avenue. Followed by his Burial at Corstorphine Hill Woodland Cemetery in Drumbrae at noon.

Tris has been part of the club for many years. Although he's not been around in recent times with his teaching in Japan and then moving to London to work in the House of Commons I can assure that no one at the club has forgotten him.

I first remember playing cricket with Tristan at under 14's. He was about the only kid there that actually wanted to be a spinner - although I'm sure he'd correct me and tell that was because he was rubbish at bowling seam!

I'll always remember his run up... the hand would sweep the long blond curtains out the way, a deep sigh and that grenade would fly... not often to any great devastating effect might I add. But there was always that desire in Tristan to do better with the next ball and that was purely to help his team to victory.

He was part of the most successful youth team this club has seen. His spirit on the field and encouragement was always positive and was always able to lift the spirits of the side no matter how badly we where getting thrashed!

One or both of us would end up scoring for whatever team and we always commentated on games together doing our best Geoffrey Boycott and Ritchie Beneau impressions.

The most memorable time was in India at the Roshinara Gentleman’s club. Robin and Ratz where batting and Frank had given us his video camera... there must be 20 minutes of footage of us commentating on there... needless to say we where getting destroyed by the Indian bowlers but it was all tongue in cheek banter from Tris.

That was it with Tristan. There was always a funny side to everything.

He went on to establish himself as a solid 2's player and one of the great characters in the club. Every single person in the club who knew Tristan has found the news unbearable.

In my eyes it’s a true sign of how highly everyone thought of him.

Tristan was genuinely one of nicest men I've ever had the pleasure to know. And I sincerely mean that. There are few people you meet that influence your outlook on life.

Tristan certainly influenced my life and I believe I'm a better man for knowing him.

On Friday I won't say goodbye to a friend, I say goodbye to a brother.
