| Friendly v Greenock So after months of indoor preperation the season finally got under way on Saturday. The 1st XI travelled to Kevin Mclarens former club Greenock to test themselves against the premier league top dogs. Greenock opened the season by deciding to bat first and where on the back foot as Paddy and Gordie Allen opened the bowling attack. It didn't take long for a wicket to fall and the hosts found themselves in a spot of bother at 43 for 2 as Paddy tightened the screws taking 2 great wickets. However, the tide turned as catches and opportunites to take wickets seemed to just be out of grasp as few pre-season jitters hit the Lions. It turned out to be one of those days that catches looped over heads and lady luck appeared to be on the side of the Greenock boys. Greenock powered their way to 233 for 9 from the 40 overs on offer. Wickets for Preston with a 3 for, Az with a good 2 for with Kev and Craigie taking 1 a piece. The batting didn't quite go to plan as this was more than a getable total with the batting available. Sully made an impressive debut with a solid 30 with Dave Lawrie adding a nice little 23 not out to start his season off well. Az looked good and played that famous back foot drive of his before hitting one straight at mid off. And for those of you who haven't heard the returning Preston Momson, scored an excellent 58 before retiring to let some of his teammates have a go... They reached a respectable 176 for 8 before running out of overs. A promising perfromance from the 1st XI that saw 3 new faces make debuts. Ally Fleming had a good stint behind the sticks, Sully making runs and Gordie Allen bowling some good areas was unlucky not get a wicket. The 2nd and 3rd XI's took on Murrayfield Dafs at Roseburn. The 2's batted first on what has been described as a pudding of a wicket scored 99 against the team that finished 3rd in Div 1 last year. Matt Hansen returning to the club with a fine innings of 36. Murrayfield reached the score for 5 wickets down. The 3rd XI won their game after chasing 147.
