U15 's Beat Penicuik
Penicuik 108 for 2 in 20 overs. Corstorphine 110 for 2 in 16.4 overs.
The weather was bright & sunny but a chill wind blew across from the North Sea making matters uncomfortable for players, spectators, umpires and scorers alike during the second innings.
Penicuik batted first and progressed steadily but had only reached 26 for no wicket after 10 overs. This was due to some tight bowling by opening pair Kevin Meier and 11 year old Ally Sadler.
The latter conceeding just 6 runs from his four overs which included two maidens. The first wicket fell in the 11th over, bowled by David Niccol making a welcome return after suffering last season with an injury, when Skipper A Harrison (29 runs) was deceived by a well flighted delivery and was stumped by first time wicket keeper Gareth Hopkins. This heralded a somewhat increase in the run rate when R Liddle came to the wicket with some lusty blows and good running between the wickets. Mr Liddle lost his wicket in the 20th & final over when caught by David Niccol from the bowling of Ossie Malik. Young Penicuik wicket keeper S Whait carried his bat for 22 not out with the other not out batsman being C Ashforth (4 runs). Corstorphine's tidy bowling conceded just one wide and one no ball.
Corstorphine's innings got off to a bright start with Ossie Malik and Joe Kinghorn striking the ball well and the game had swung Corstorphine's way before Ossie mistimed a shot and was out in the eighth over for 16 in a partnership of 55. Peter Cameron was next in and he and Joe kept the score ticking over until Peter was caught behind for 16 in the 13th over with the score on 90. Joe was forced to retire when he made 50 out of a total of 96. Kevin Meier (13 n.o.) and Max Stirling Langley (0 n.o.) ensured victory.
The next round Corstorphine entertain Grange at a date to be finalised.
