3rd XI v Kismet II

Could it be, surely not, yep, it was. Saturday, cricket and there wasn’t any rain falling. The three’s turned up to “Fortress Gyle”, cleared the detritus of a winter of football from what is, technically, the outfield and prepared to get down to the hard work of securing a first 20 point haul of the season.

Much was made, prematch of the desire for revenge against a side who last season had beaten us twice, including a squeaker when we had only seven bodies. Though these thoughts were pushed aside as captain Moore lost the toss and the visitors elected to bat. Whether this was folly or purely a successful plan on behalf of their skipper to get things over with and back to Fife in plenty of time for Britian’s Got Talent has yet to be ascertained, suffice it to say, they didn’t make much of a fist of it. Wickets fell early and often. 30 all out being the final sorry tale. Three wickets apiece for Macca, Chappers and Fraggle, whilst JB took a catch, Ringles, with a flat bullet of a throw from all of 80 yards had a direct hit run out, and JK in an echo of last weeks controversies stumped a still bemused and unsuspecting Kismet batsmen. This time the umpire had no hesitation in giving it out.

Quality bowling all round, Ringles unable to buy a wicket, didn’t see a run scored off the bat against him, going for 2 wides and a no ball. Macca with just too much pace and bounce, Fraggle coming back well from being spanked for six and Chappers just doing what he’s been doing since dirt was a boy.

So, we pressed on, requiring just 31. Will had a couple of swings but was given out lbw early. He looked well down the track but these things often happen. Fraggle and JB looked set to steer us home before Fraggle got tired of scoring without boundaries and was bowled. It was left for JK to hit the winning runs.

A quick bite of an excellent tea…..bit less of the porcine products next time Jonesy, before the majority of the team made it over to Inverleith to watch the ones open their account with a comfortable win over Stew/Mel.
