Hedge Busters

The 3's arrived at the Kirk Brae ground, Double Hedges, on a gloriously
sunny day, ready to take on one of the early pace setters in div 8.
Mooro won the toss and put Kirk Brae into bat. With no Chappers or Ringles
this week Fraggle (who celebrated his 16th Birthday the next day) stepped up and opened the bowling with Macca.

Kirk Brae got some early joy with Raja working the Macca down to the third man area, Macca did have chances though with two edges that absolutely flew with Jonesey managing to parry one away from rearranging his face and IceCube moving to his right, after the ball was 10 yards past him.

We had to wait till the 8th over where Will took a low one diving forward at
cover from a miss-timed drive of Fraggle's bowling.

First change brought Ozzy and Will into the game with Ozzy bowling a tidy spell of 0-16-5 and Will "Barnes Wallis" Blackett removing the free swinging Tahair with a bouncing bomb that pitched in the middle of the track looped up managed to miss the almighty swing aimed at it and landed on top of the bails.

Wills 2'nd was taken by Macca at cover after initially misjudging it's height
had to make up some ground forward to take a good catch, 'Barnes Wallis'
finishing on 2-17-3.

Steve Burnett and Icecube were next up with Steve bowling the right line to
the Kirk Brae captain to minimise the runs. He was unlucky not to get a
wicket after a good few deliveries that were a coat of varnish away from leg
stump, final figs were 0-11-6.

Icecube finally removed Raja on 39 after getting him to nick one to JK and finishing on figs of 1-13-3.

Fraser Niccol and Mooro (0-10-2) were brought into the attack with Fraser
Niccol producing the ball of the day removing the batsman looking to leave
the natural ball from a right arm leg spinner that was pitching outside off,
unfortunately for the batsman it was the googly which turned into him clean
bowling the batsman and drawing comments of amazement and admiration
from the Kirk Brae player who was umpiring "T-t-t-t-that was a googly!!!!!".

Fraser's 2nd wicket was a short ball that got smacked into the cover
area, Dave Lawrie had already started to run to the boundary from Point in
anticipation but Ozzy had other ideas moving quickly to his right at cover
he stuck out a hand and it stuck, Fraser finishing on 2-10-4.

Macca (0-21-7) and Fraggle (2-5-6.4) were brought back on to wrap up the
innings with Fraggle duly obliging removing their captain caught at gully by
Macca, leaving Kirk Brae on 105 all out (7 wickets).

After a good tea and a catch up with a few visiting players and family/partners, Ally, Mike (and daughter Leyla) Paul and Lorraine, coupled
with the news that the 2's had already dispatched Drummond Trinity Ozzy
and Dave Lawrie headed out to the middle.

Kirk Brae's openers bowled well with Raja removing both Dave and Ozzy before they could get to double figures, this brought Nick and Steve to the middle.

Things were ticking along nicely then in the 14th over with 47 on the board Nick smashed one back at Raja who stuck a hand up to stop it but it was far to hard and unfortunately caused a serious injury to his middle finger that we have found out was operated on the Sat night, we all hope he gets well soon.

As a result of this Raja and his son both had to leave leaving Kirk Brae with 9 (including the 3 fielders lent by us). With the extra gaps in the field Nick and Steve got the rest of the runs required in 12 overs.

I'll leave you with this, with the scores level and Nick on strike on 49 he ran a leg bye to win the game, what a gent.

(Ed: what an idiot!!)
