NEWS Az Scores 50 Before the Thunder The 2’s travelled to West Lothian on Saturday with a days cricket in the glorious sunshine in mind! Having passed the sun cream round the dressing room in preparation for 100 overs in the sun (which was supposed to appear after the grey overcast cloud burned off) the toss was lost and the 2’s where put into bat. With the cloud still hovering overhead Sean and Az took centre stage and opened the innings.
Having looked solid Azhar, however, was looking in fine form as he was dealing in only boundaries with some perfectly fashioned cover and back foot drives. He and Jason took the score onto 24 from 10 overs before the kiwi played round a straight one and found himself wandering back to the changing rooms desperately trying to think of a good excuse for it…!! As the cloud thickened skipper Westy made his way out to the crease. Westy wasn’t hanging around as the team realised that the weather was indeed turning for the worst. That sun cream had been wasted! The partnership quickly took us to 54 for 2 in the next 5 overs having punished some loose bowling and poor fielding. Although Westy was looking very scratchy in the first few overs he soon settled before the decision was made to take shelter before the rain really took hold. A 2 hour break, an early tea, a lot of debate about the weather and if we’d have time to finish the game soon followed. Damp areas around the wicket where the problem. The real concern for the home team was damage to the square this early in the season would not have been welcomed by their grounds man! Being struck by lightning wasn’t that appealing either! Eventually the rain stopped and we decided to give it ago as we didn’t want to give up so easily after last years ‘summer’. Back to the crease for Az and Westy with Azhar taking the initiative this time. Azhar played some text book shots and inspired by wife (and baby bump) made his way to his first 50 for the club. The first of many (runs/babies) I’m sure! With the thunder and lightening making its way slowly but surely towards the Boghall ground again, the rain
soon began. As the lightening and thunder sounded simultaneously overhead, hands where shaken, the match
abandoned and change of underwear required. Westy scoring a solid 39 (with a cheeky reverse sweep included) and Azhar finishing on 55 not out the innings was abandoned at 113 for 2 in the 32nd over. Some great banter and hospitality with the West Lothian boys who did their best to keep the game going means they’ll be in for a warm welcome in the return leg… lets just hope the rain stays away that day!! |
