NEWS 2nd XI See Off The Village Saturday saw the 2nd XI off on their travels again as they took on Preston village in the first game of the 2nd half of the season. With the weather overcast, the pitch looking bowler friendly, Preston Village won the toss and put the 2’s into bat. It didn’t take long for Preston Village to strike as their skipper opened the bowling and started off with a double wicket maiden. Firstly dispatching Sean Hoffman for just 6 and 3 balls later Jason edged one to the keeper leaving the Lions 7 for 2. With Az still in the middle Westy joined him and they set about rebuilding A solid partnership of 45 had helped see off the openers and get the Lions back on track. Out to the crease came new boy Tim Hancock, who the week previously had impressed with a debut 34 against Stew Mel. Az and Tim soon got on top of the first change bowlers and the run rate soared as Az was first to his 50. He was eventually undone finishing on 61, a career best for the club. Tim wasn’t far behind him as he smashed his way to 51 before departing. BP took charge and started spanking the bowlers round the park as he hit a very important and timely 36. The 2's finished with a very admirable 209 all out having not gotten the best of starts. Az and Bammo started with the ball and bowled another fantastic spell of opening seam bolwing with the wicket becoming a bit more lively with the pace that these 2 produce. It took a wee while to get the break through but Bammo eventually got one and was left with eventual figures of 1 for 10 from his 5 over spell. With Preston village slowly making they're way along and the ball seaming about the decision to keep the pace on the ball going proved to be the right one. It was that man Tim that did the damage again as he took 2 for 17 from his 10 overs. Taking a high ct and Bowled and knocking the sticks over in stylish fashion. Westy backed him up well with a good tight spell of 0 for 16 from his 7 overs of pies. Preston Village knew they where beaten with too many runs on the board for them to chase and seemed to be happy to bat it out for the extra batting points. The spin twins, BP and AJ came on and bowled some tight lines and went for 2 for 29 and 2 for 34 respectively. Westy taking a good catch at deep mid off to remove their skipper and danger man from BP's bowling. Some great keeping from Robin Yellowlees made sure that he got in on the action with an excellent stumping. Bammo also finished off a good day with the ball by knocking down the sticks with an excellent throw from cover. Preston Village finshed on 134 for 8 from their 50 overs. Another great Team Performance and another solid victory.
