The 2’s, The 2’s, The 2’s Are On Fire!

Saturday brought a fantastic result against 3rd placed Drummond/Trinity for the 2nd XI.

Drummond/Trinity skipper won the toss and elected to bat on what was a pretty green deck, slow outfield and short boundary.

Looking to put another big score on the board for us to chase opener Nasir slashed at the first delivery of the day from Azhar. Although he got nowhere near it he clearly thought it was a good idea to have another go, this time the result was an easy catch for Bonner behind the sticks!

Not wanting to be outdone by a brilliant opening over by Az, Bamo started in a similar manner.

An excellent leg side catch from James Bonner and a good decision by the home umpire removed Khan from proceedings on the 5th ball of Bamo’s first over.

With the score board reading 1 run for 2 wickets skipper Brand got his head down with Coulson at the other end.

Both struggled with the pace, swing and seam from Azhar and Bamo.

Coulson having tried his luck a few times at Az’s bowling, was soon undone as Jason took a flier above his head in the slips.

The score now reading 7 for 3 saw Tim Jays come in to try and steady the ship for the DT’s. Unfortunately for Jays Bamo and Bonner had other ideas and sent him packing.

Brand caught hold of a few off Bamo’s deliveries and left the silent assassin with great figures of 2 for 15.

Azhar bowled his finest spell in the last 2 years and deservedly finished with 2 for 8.

With the sun blazing, the wickets falling and the Lions starting to roar loudly it was time for a change of attack.

Having sorted his run up out during the week, Paul ‘Giggsy’ Geoghegan started in the same manner as the openers.

Brand dispatched by a cracking off cutter from Giggsy’s 3rd delivery.
This was the trend set by the skipper as Giggsy destroyed the DT’s middle order. Another good catch from Bonner, 1 caught and bowled and 4 bowled gave Giggsy joint career best of 6 for 9 from 5.3 overs.

He was well supported by Tyson and Gus who both where unlucky not to get a wicket.

Disappointingly for 3rd placed Drummond/Trinity they finished with just 50 on the board. Great spells of bowling and some great fielding ensured an easy target for our batsmen to reach.

Out strode the Hoff and Az to chase down the runs. With things getting off to a slow but steady start we reached 32 before Hoffy slashed at a wide ball and though the ball previous was despatched in a similar manner for 4, a little bit more bounce helped him edge it to the keeper.

Az followed 3 balls later as he clipped one to the slips.

This left Jason And Tyson to chase down the remaining 18 runs.
With some good running they did so quite easily. With one run to win Tyson tried to finish the game in style and strode down the track. Someone obviously forgot to tell him that he needs to hit the ball before he runs and was subsequently stumped as he sheepishly tried to make his way back to his crease.

So Arun Jay stepped up and in true self-proclaimed ‘African Prince’ fashion dispatched the next delivery for 4 before running off the pitch and back to the boys to celebrate a fantastic win.

An excellent performance from the bowlers, in particular Giggsy who bowled like a dream. He steals the man of the match award again.

We’re starting to win games in a really professional manner now but lets not forget there is a long way to go this season. A great win against 3rd place rivals doesn’t mean we’ll beat everyone. Time to focus boys, time to focus.
