1st Team Triumph Over Old Boys Weirs

"We arrived promptly for 12* and rushed into our warm-up drills, we knew we were here to do a job. It was cold but thankfully no rain about. Losing the toss, we were asked to bowl first, much to my contentment.

Our usual pairing of Ryan 'the bulldog' Reeves and Paddy 'the incredibly tall' Sadler took the new ball.

Initially the boys struggled with the areas they were bowling, and we let Weirs get off to a better start than we would have liked them to. Nonetheless, the boys stuck at it and promptly adjusted their lines and lengths, much to our relief, when Paddy 'how tall are you' Sadler clean bowled their opener.

I brought Kev on quite early hoping he could build some pressure, and i think he did just that, eventually picking up their Pro for a well played 60. Well bowled Kev.

Once the pro had departed everything fell into place for us. We played a patient waiting game, and just stuck to our lines and lengths, and simply asked them to make the mistakes.

Pav did a very good job as first change and indeed his second spell was just as good as his first. Reeves came back for a second spell picking up a wicket thanks to a tidy grab by skinny 'the party bus guru' Bradshaw behind the stumps.

I can feel Ryan 'the bulldog' Reeves is just getting into his rhythm - indeed good news for the club as i think plenty of wickets are heading his way.

Craigi 'the dilligent accountant' Adams was also brought into the attack and did a fine job restricting them in the later stages. He quite happily picked up 3 - 19, the best of the figures for the day.

Finally they had finished on 174, and it was up to us to complete the second half of the job.

Myself (Preston 'Churchill' Mommsen) and Rob 'the lawful one' More strode to the wicket knowing exactly what we needed to do - bat time.

We got off to a decent start losing our first wicket at 30, however we still haven't been able to muster the kind of start that we know we're capable of - Hopefully that peak is just around the corner for us.

I fell LBW for 10. Kev came in at 3 and looked good before being bowled. It was then Rob who fell to their 'leg-spinner'. Rob also looked good while in the middle and i feel his big score is also on the horizon.

Cunners then fell quite quickly after, leaving us in a little bit of bother.

Step to the plate Reevo and Craigi for a hard-grafting match-winning partnership to take us home. Craigi finishing off on 38* and Reevo on 64*.

Both of them had the right temperament, batting sensibly right through the innings which included a few sublime strokes from Reevo over extra cover. Well played to the both of them.

All in all, we knew we had a job to do, and we went there and did it. Credit to us for sticking to our tasks at hand. We know we can still improve, and that's encouraging for us. So that's now 2 wins. Hopefully we can now build on this momentum.

However we are still only looking at one week at a time, and this week its Falkland, so all our energy will be put into that fixture to really get the ball rolling for our season.

Thanks for Reading
Signing out, Captain P"

*Please Note - Promptly arriving at 12 was only possible thanks to the new Kev-Kev online mapquest system. Next time I may not be at home pulling my hair out beacuse it's raining again - take a map!
