First of the Season Clean Sweep!

The first league game of the season for 2’s turned out to be a well fought win as they simply overpowered Dunnikier with a great team performance.

Although facing a good Dunnikier opening bowling attack the Lions never allowed them to get on top in what turned out to be a well paced innings

Nick and Hoffy producing a solid opening partnership reaching 46 before Nick was caught on 17.

Hoffy went on to score 55 before running out of steam. Gareth Swales looking in great form knocked a quick 19 before Arnie stepped up and hung around to score 46.

Paul Webster scored an impressive 31 on his debut but everyone felt he could have scored more had he been fit enough to run 2’s that should have been 3’s!!

Nick Adams delighted that the batting clinic was worth while!

After a quick flourish from other debutants Arun Jay and Paul Reed, BP and James Bonner hit a quick few runs at the end to finish off the innings in impressive fashion. Bonner being run out on the last ball on 19.

After a good tea and setting a solid score of 218 for 7 the Lions took the field as the weather went from sunny to dull, miserable and windy!

However with high spirits in the side and the prospect of a first win on the cards the Lions soon set in about the Dunnikier batsmen.

Knowing full well that their opening partnership is often the basis for a good innings it was imperative that the Lions struck early. And after an attempted quick single and excellent bit of fielding from Webby, the first of the wickets fell as stand in keeper Westy knocked the bails off.

Chappers and Paul Reed opened the bowling although neither came away with a wicket in their first spell. It was the unlikely source of Arnie Sathiy that produced the next 2 wickets as he dismissed Drysdale LBW and Kent the next ball with what was a brilliant diving catch from Webby in the covers.

Bryan Potter then got the important wicket of Braid as Dunny slipped to 75 for 4.

Reedy was then brought back into the attack from the other end which proved to be a great decision!

The wickets soon started to tumble as his display of pace and swing soon destroyed what was left of any hopes of Dunnikier winning the game.

With another Run Out in between it all Reedy took the final wicket and his 5th of the day which also sealed a man of the match performance on his debut.

He was also close to getting a hat trick had Westy taken a great diving attempt to his weaker hand.

Although getting finger tips to it, it would have honestly been a superhuman catch for the stand in keeper.

Dunnikier all out for 110. (Chapman 0-10 off 6 overs, Reedy 5-18 off 7.1, Arnie 2-54 off 10, BP 1-7 off 6 overs and Arun 0-5 off 3 overs)

A great win and a great start to the season. A couple of important games ahead will need an extra effort to overcome the likes of Drummond Trinity and Stenhousemuir in the next few weeks.

3's V Peebles
RHC 3's took on Peebles 2's 'away' at Roseburn (Peebles 1's were using the home pitch) looking to make it two out of two in the league.

Ally won the toss and elected to have a bat, with all going well from the opening partnership of Ally and Tricky as the latter showed that being a lazy student layabout had not dulled his eye for the ball hitting 17.

Everyone else got going but it was RHC debutantes Srikanth (28) and Azmat (77 from 41 balls) that were the stand out batsmen, with Azmat demolishing the Peebles attack with regular boundaries and Srikanth occupying the crease well.

Ali's Army March on!

RHC posted 198 all out off 33 overs, cheered on all the way by visiting stars Mark Allen and Mikey Whalen.

Peebles must have thought the way to approach this run chase was to come out all guns blazing, with their opener hitting a 6 and a 4 in the first 3 balls of the opening over, this only succeeded in motivating Adam Knight into clean bowling him next ball and what followed was a prolonged spell of quick and accurate bowling from Adam to finish up with 6 for 27.

Adam was assisted by Macca at the other end who kept it tight bowling 5 overs for 1 run.

Fraser West showed his brother Kevin how it's done by taking 2 well deserved wickets for 22 runs and Alan Moore claiming 2 for 21.

Peebles put up a good fight but were all out for 138, RHC were simply too strong in all areas of the game.

1's v Glasgow Accies
On Sunday the 1st XI got their first win of the season to make it a clean sweep for all 3 sides.

Keeping Glasgow Accies to 160 for 8 in a reduced overs game saw Sean Olivier consistent yet again with the ball as he took 3 for 31.

Captain Gordon Lamb chipped in with a 2 for 23. Luke, Azhar and Paddy also taking a wicket each.

After patiently waiting on the rain to disappear the Lions made it to 84 for 1 before Luke Reynolds was caught 1 short of his 2nd 50 of the season.

Jason McCarthy picked up where he left off last season and made a valuable 33 before Lamby hung around to make his first runs of the season by adding 25 to the score.

With light fading fast and only 3 overs remaining it was Pallav who finished the game off with a bit of slap as he sent 2 balls for 6 and 4 to finish off proceedings.

A good win that should set the side up for next weeks away cup game to Stoneywood Dyce.
