NEWS

Well the winter break is over and it’s time to start dusting off yer kit and oiling the old bones!!

AGM

The AGM was held on Tuesday 28th at the clubhouse, Barnton.

As usual there was a quick review of last season, financial reports, nominations for captains and other committee places.

Arnie and Nick where both sworn in again as President and Vice President respectively.

Mark Cunningham was elected as 1st XI Captain to replace Gordon Lamb. Skinny was nominated Vice Captain.

Cunners is known for his power hitting with the bat and his everlasting enthusiasm. The committee are positive that Mark is the right man for the job and are delighted he has accepted the role.

Once again Westy will take the 2nd XI with his side kick, Giggsy, as Vice skip

"This season will see the 2's reach East Div 2, we are a much stronger side than last year and we deserve to be there," said the 2's skip, "Another season of hardwork and patience will see us there"

Although rumours have been flying around we can confirm that Alan Moore has been elected as 3rd XI Captain along with JK as Vice Skipper. The committee firmly denies any links with Donkey Kong.

Other new recruits to the Committee are Skinny as Fundraising Liason, and Kevin McLaren as Director Of Cricket.

Elmer the New Scotland Coach

As if you hadn’t heard by now former RHC coach, captain and all round good guy Pete Steindl (and lets not forget – Saviour) has been announced as the National Coach. This is a tremendous achievement for Pete and definitely a deserved one!! There has to be some sort of reward for coaching us lot for years!!!

Everyone at the club wishes you the best of luck in the job Pete…. lets hope you can mastermind a defeat of the English on the 18th August!

You can guarantee a massive Corry support that day!!

Senior Nets

Full senior nets will begin on Sunday 24th Feb at Edinburgh Accies Sports Hall.

We welcome back Kevin McLaren as Head coach.

Kev is also taking a Video Analysis Batting Clinic which starts on Saturday 26th.

The following was sent by email recently….

"After weeks of trying I have managed to block book 2 lanes at Mary Erskines on a Saturday afternoon 4 pm till 6 pm starting 26/1 through to 8/3 for some pre season one on one batting coaching. This year there will also be opportunity for the bowlers to roll there arms over as well.

As we have an exciting yet testing season ahead (for all 3 teams) I feel it is important we get as much of a head start on the opposition as possible. During the sessions I will be videoing the batters to help with technical issues. There will also be a live net running.

I would also like to express my delight in being part the club this year and feel we have a lot to play for.
From what I can see there WILL be competition for places in each team this season, and encourage the lads who are looking for a slot in the 1st XI especially to work as hard as possible from now until the season commences to avoid disappointment.”

Please contact Nick if you wish to get involved. Nick.Adams@payzone.co.uk

If you didn’t get the email it’s likely we don’t have your up to date email address.

Send it to us at rhccricket@yahoo.co.uk.

Junior Nets Begin

Junior Nets started on Tuesday 22nd January at the Edinburgh Accies indoor sports centre.

There is also Thursday sessions starting on the 24th at Stew Mel?

All new comers are welcome – please contact Steve Sadler for more info.

Swales is Swaning off

And finally it’s good riddance to Gareth Swales as he has landed himself a cushy job in Abu Dhabi.

I’d personally like to thank Gareth for all his efforts over the past couple of seasons.

Your input into the field placements will definitely be missed!

Good Luck and don’t be a stranger!

Pro and Amateurs sign for this season…
And they’re here already!!

Thankfully this season we have our Professional and Amateurs already in the country so no last minute rush this year!

Those of you who have already meet them will agree that they are both good lads and will fit in well within the club.

For those who haven’t…

Our pro this year is Ryan Reeves. You may well recognise his name. Ryan was due to be Pro last year but as he ran into visa problems before coming over to the UK he was unable to join the club.

Ryan had a taste of Scottish Cricket at the end of last season where he subbed in for Heriots pro helping them avoid relegation.

Our overseas amateur is Preston Mommsen. Preston has already had a full season in Scotland so is well aware of what great conditions he can expect.

Preston was forced into batting down the order for Heriots last season restricting his batting abilities as an opener. This season Preston is hell bent on improving on his 193 runs and 11 wickets he took last year.

Both guys are South African and hail form Durban. Both have played for Berea Rovers where former Pro James Schorn hails from.

Please introduce yourselves and make both guys welcome in true Corry fashion!

Pre-Season Friendly's

The club has arranged 2 pre-season friendly games for the 1st XI. the first being against Penicuik away on Sat 19th April and Watsonians (away again) on Sunday 20th April.

We will be looking to get at least one other Friendly organised for those eager in the 2's and 3's.
