Changes To Our Junior Setup

Changes To Our Junior Setup

Gordon Allan and Lea Tsui, who were familiar faces for the last 2 years, have moved onto new clubs and we have been busy putting in place the right structure to move forward.

As I mentioned to a few parents last week, we wanted to let people know who was taking over from Lea as soon as possible to ensure there is no disruption to the provision and quality of coaching.

Going forward, Gordon Lamb (that’s me) will be taking over as Junior Convenor for the club. I will be responsible keeping you in the loop regarding fixtures, training as well as delivering some of the coaching. For those who do not know me, I have been playing at RH Corstorphine for almost 15 years. I started in the U15s and worked my way through the teams to the 1st XI, a team I have captained in the past and still play for now. In 2007, I did my coaching qualification and have been involved with coaching for a number of years. I am a primary school teacher in West Lothian and amongst other things I am responsible for delivering PE to pupils from Nursery to P7.

This season we have a number of ECB Level 2 coaches who will be planning our coaching programme and running the majority of sessions. The Head Coach will be Michael Yellowlees and he will be assisted by Joe Kinghorn. Both Michael and Joe played junior cricket for the club and are very able and motivated coaches who have spent time this winter playing and coaching overseas, in South Africa and New Zealand respectively. We are also hoping that Jason Biddulph, our South African overseas player, will be joining us in April. He is a top quality coach and has built up a good rapport with the junior members over the last 2 seasons.

In addition you will see qualified coaches Fraser West and Nicky Bruton at junior sessions, along with other senior playing members who come down and assist the coaches.

Well that’s a brief introduction to our coaching set up for the new season. Please note that our indoor sessions Friday 7pm at Edinburgh Academy will continue until 30/3/12. In the meantime we will keep you updated with our plans for the summer via email. We have also launched a new website and would encourage you and your child to register so we can keep you informed of our plans.

If you have any queries or would like further information please feel free to email me (rhccricket@yahoo.co.uk). In the case of an emergency (or more likely difficulty picking your child up) my phone number is 07714 790 603. Michael Yellowlees is on 07503 921 215. If I’m unable to pick up please try Kevin West (club secretary) on 07725 515 148 as he has his finger on the pulse and will be able to help!

Great article and good momentum Lambie, Kevin et al. I shall be down to senior training on Sunday, despite the fact Liverpool are contesting their first cup final since 2006... Now that's commitment.
