The 2009 Masterton Trophy Winners

NEWS

This years Overseas Player is Kiwi Matt Holstein. He will be assisting our OA from last year Preston Mommsen, who returns to us as Pro.

Preston and Matt will be taking charge of some of the coaching in our Junior section picking up on all the good work Preston and Ryan Reeves did last year.

We all know Preston having scored an excellent 538 runs and taking 21 wickets last year but this little intro from Matt will hopefuly help you know him a little better!

"Hi Im Matt Holstein and I hail from beautiful, sunny, Christchurch, New Zealand, I’ve just turned 19 years old and I'm a left arm spinner and middle order batsman.

Favourite players and why: Would have to be Harbajan Singh because of his bubbly attitude and attacking style, and Michael Clarke because hes such a classy player and an awesome fielder.

Sportsman you most hate: Probably Iain O’Brien because he has a blog on cricinfo and looks like a weasel on a Meth bender!

Which club or representative sides you have played for: I’ve represented Canterbury and Christchurch at under age levels since I was 12 and have been training with the Mens side over the last season, I play for St Albans CC in their premier mens team, since I left high school, we were the top club side in the Christchurch competition last season.

Family banter: Im an only child and shamelessly still live at home with mum and dad and my grandma and the dog. They keep trying (unsuccessfully) to kick me out!

Best cricket moment: The best cricket moment was this year for St Albans in a must win 1 day match (to qualify for semi final) I came out at number 11 at 124-9 chasing 175 to win with 10 overs to go, we won it with 2 balls to spare, I hit 32not out off 29 balls and was one of the heros! Good feeling!

Worst one: The 20/20 competition of last season, team lost every game (coming in as favourites) one of those weekends where I couldn’t do anything right.

Best performance: In high school cricket I took 6 wickets and 50 not out one day, and my premier debut stands out also when I took 4-10 off 15 overs.

Highest score: 104 not out for high school 1st XI.

Most wickets in a season:
In all cricket over the 2007/08 season I took 56 wickets in club, representative and school cricket.

Best "name" wicket you've taken:
In the one-day final last season I managed to get Paul Wiseman caught and bowled which was a good feeling."

We'll we're delighted to have you aboard Matt and hopefully you'll take a few wickets for the Lions and pass on some good coaching tips to the junior sides. Please make sure you all give Matt a big corry welcome and introduce yourselves next time you see him!!
